The Register has posted some interesting results for a five-pack of the most popular cleanup utilities out there. You can read all about it here. In short, a cheaper RAM upgrade will give you substantially better results than any of this software, which included such favorites as lolo System Mechanic 9, TuneUp Utilities 2009, PC Tools Desktop Maestro, Fix-it Utilities 9, and the old favorite ccleaner. What was more interesting was that most of these products actually slowed-down the PC they were tested on. This is just the empirical data to prove what I've always felt, which is that these programs aren't even worth testing out the trial.
